OUR STORY

Gazander Oysters was established in 2002; owned and operated by Steven and Carly Thomson.

Steven – (known as Thommo) comes from agricultural farming background on Yorke Peninsula with professional experience in commercial banking, paving and landscaping business and rock lobster fishing  and Carly grew up locally  and is a second generation oyster grower.

After returning to the Eyre Peninsula after living in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) in 2001. Thomo and Carly were given opportunity of leasing water from Carly's family business; Coffin Bay Shellfish.

Carly's  brothers, Todd and Chad Owen today operate Coffin Bay Shellfish after the recent retirement of Carly's parents, Glyn and Pam Owen.

Early days of Gazander Oysters saw work carried out on nights and weekends as a real labour of love with all profit returned into business.

Today we take pride how we have grown our business and quality of the premium oysters we supply to our buyers.

Our family has also grown with births of Gia, Billie Rose, and Zephyr.  They have been active contributors to Gazander Oysters from a young age and love to eat a good oyster. (Generally Kilpatrick not natural just yet!)

Thomo has spent his days refining and perfecting his system of growing quality oysters.  Gazander oysters employ the long line basket system of growing oysters on their lease with minimal impact on the environment.

We take advantage of our local weather systems (tides, wind and rain) to enhance optimal growth of our oysters. We add nothing in this natural process to grow our luxurious oysters. Our premium oysters thrive on their own in the pure waters of Little Douglas Bay.
